Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the release by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also expressed words of sorrow online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a hotel about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a room in the engineering facility on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source told the news agency.

Police that raided the hotel found two handguns and two ammunition clips when the individual was detained, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.
