Strong winter winds brought walls down upon flimsy shelters housing Palestinians displaced by war in Gaza, claiming the lives of at least 4 people. These deaths highlights the perilous situation that persist after over two years of intense bombardment and critical lack of humanitarian assistance.

Truce Provides No Relief from Severe Elements

While a truce has been in effect from last fall, aid groups state that Palestinians broadly lack the adequate housing required to withstand recurring winter storms.

Medical staff at Gaza City's largest medical facility, which took in the bodies, reported on this week that the deceased include two women, a young female, and a male adult.

Separately, the local health authority stated on Tuesday that a one-year-old boy succumbed of extreme cold overnight.

"The world has enabled us to experience loss of life in all its forms," stated a family member after the burial. "It’s true the bombing may have temporarily stopped, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of fatality in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Relatives Crushed in Tent Collapse

According to Shifa hospital, three people of a one household — 72-year-old Mohamed Hamouda, his teenage granddaughter, and his son's wife — were killed when an 26-foot high wall fell onto their tent in a area near the sea of the city. No fewer than five others were injured in the event.

Family members on that day started clearing the debris that had buried their family and rebuilding the temporary homes for survivors.

Aid Distribution and Continuing Crisis

United Nations agencies and its humanitarian partners were distributing tents, plastic sheeting, warm covers and clothing as well as nutrition and hygiene supplies throughout Gaza, said the relevant UN coordination body.

Third Winter of Hardship

Gaza’s residents of more than 2 million people has been struggling to fend off the cold weather and storms at bay while facing shortages of humanitarian aid and a absence of more substantial transitional shelter, which is badly needed during the colder season.
