One-time economic leader the Harvard professor is exiting the directorate at OpenAI, just days after a series of emails between him and notorious criminal the accused trafficker became public.
Summers stated in an announcement that he was "thankful for the privilege to have served, optimistic about the prospects of the enterprise, and look forward following their development".
Summers, who previously led Harvard University, stated on earlier this week that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

The newly public communications revealed that the economist corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein until the 24 hours preceding the financier's 2019 detention for accused human trafficking of underage individuals.
In another announcement, the technology organization expressed it respected his decision to depart.

This announcement arrives after the entire Congress of the US legislature voted on Tuesday to endorse a legislation that would require the US justice department to disclose its files on the case.
The measure will afterward move to the administration of US President Donald Trump for signature. He has indicated he plans to endorse the measure, after reversing his stance on the subject following pushback from his followers.
