Ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced accusations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has yet to be released.

A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.

Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.

The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
