The English Team to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated entry for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not staged an Three Lions game since eight years ago, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to host the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Championship Launch and Protest
The event was unveiled at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host FAs were heckled as they arrived the site by about 50 activists, who urged Israel to be expelled from global football because of the Gaza crisis.
Placards were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The opening game of the European Championship will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve Wales if they make it.
Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the tournament through that route.
Stadiums and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches staged at the national stadium of each host.
The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
