The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
