This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
